Is there software to update the software or write it yourself?

Prompt software to update your software. An almost ideal solution would be SVN with read-only access for users, but:
1) I'm not sure if it can be distributed in my software
2) The .svn folder in the root of the game can overwrite another / someone else's .svn folder
3) For the user, this should be extremely transparent, maximum "Update" button or automatic check and installation.
As an example - any game on Steam, you launch, it is automatically updated before starting.
For Windows. The update server is Linux, but it doesn't matter.
Thank you all in advance for your replies.
