Is there any router emulator so that you can test the firmware?

In general, I want to drink my open-wrt assembly.
The question arose where and how to test the finished firmware? And then I'll ask my (or someone else's) router and get a brick. Not good.

Usually, the firmware is divided into bootloader and main firmware. If the main one stopped working, go into bootloader mode and upload a new one. For example, on Dlink, the booter allowed uploading an image via SFTP to a fixed IP, on ASUS - via HTTP via a browser, again, on a fixed IP.
It is difficult to fully emulate a router with a hardware environment
