Is there a way to keep the internet working when devilbox is not running, and still keep auto-local domain lookups working?

I chose the docker tag because devilbox is made on docker. There is no devilbox tag.

In devilbox, you can make an automatic search for local domains. Here are the instructions:
https://devilbox.readthedocs.io/en/latest/intermed...
https://devilbox.readthedocs.io/en/latest/howto/dn...

The page from the first link has a link to the second page.
The second page says that the preferred dns server should be local (127.0.0.1):

In the last screenshot, you will have to add 127.0.0.1 as your Preferred DNS server.

But if you do this and turn off devilbox, then the Internet on your computer will stop working.

Let's say I'm working, I have a lot of instant messengers open, maybe something is downloading. I need to restart devilbox. I restart and the internet goes down. The file download is interrupted. A call in the messenger - too.

It is very uncomfortable.

You can somehow keep the Internet working when devilbox is not running. And at the same time leave the automatic search for local domains working (so as not to prescribe domains in hosts yourself)?

Preferred is not the only DNS, the secondary should pick up if the primary one falls off, plus the DNS client of the computer should have a cache, so if there is a second server in the config, nothing fatal should happen if Preferred falls off
