Is there a way on Windows to see the differences between two folders?

I have two folders on my computer with almost identical contents. But "Properties" shows some differences: a different number of files (folders - the same there and there) and the size is slightly different. Both folders, as you can see, are multi-level; that is, if you compare them visually, in the old fashioned way, then you can cope in about six months or a year.
Is there some automated way to do this?
PS: Something like synchronization, only without the Internet.

Beyond Compare - paid, but I have not seen the best comparison - it will highlight everything for you - both different files, and those that are in one folder and not in another, etc. etc.

TotalCommander can also compare. And some other two-pane file managers too.
