Is there a theory about how to build communication between two objects that do not know anything about each other?

There are 2 objects (for example, people and aliens), there is a communication channel (radio waves). And the question is, is there any theory of how we can establish communication despite the fact that we do not know their language, not any common values? Where can I look and what is the correct name?

There is. First, we transfer to each other the basic laws of mathematics, starting with the most primitive: for example, 3 * 3 + 4 * 4 \u003d 5 * 5. After decoding, the other side will know how numbers and arithmetic operations are encoded. Then we complicate the messages up to abstract concepts. Thus, the interlocutors will have a certain language of communication.

I don’t know the answer, but I came across the concept of “Chinese room”, it describes an experiment of communication between speakers of unknown languages. An example with this room was described in the book False Blindness.
