Sip server and channel driver are very different things. A lot of people want, instead of overpaying for a gateway, to pick up an android background for $100. But, as far as I know, the SIP->GSM channel driver for android does not yet exist. Without this, even if you compile Asterisk and plug in an android phone via root access, it will not become a gateway.
