Is the prestige of a university more important than self-education (having time for it)?

Gentlemen, I beg you to answer the question: what is more important the prestige of the university or self-education (for a programmer)?
The thing is,
I study at a "non-Moscow" university (mathematician-programmer), it's easy to study, it's not a problem to pass five problems, I have a lot of free time, but in the winter I sharply thought about transferring to the VMK MSU, during this time I seem to have caught up with the program, BUT ! I realized that having just spent a huge amount of time on this, I didn’t learn anything about programming for half a year, and then the question arose before me:
Is it worth it to transfer, complete the academic difference, hastily learn English, waste all the time on the university program (although VMK Moscow State University), tremble so as not to fly out (there are no even acquaintances in the capital) ??
So, is it worth it to transfer, spend all the time just studying, relying on the knowledge that the CMC MSU will give, or is it better to stay and engage in self-education in addition to the university?

Everyone will have their own opinion. A programmer needs a university only for show. A programmer needs English necessarily and as soon as possible to find a job in his specialty. Work there and learn.

A very debatable question. I can say exactly when a great education is not needed:
1. When you are not going to apply the acquired knowledge
This applies equally to those who study 5 years as an engineer to become a manager with a higher education; those who were forced by mom/dad to go to the doctor because it is a family tradition of 13 generations; as well as those who study mathematics for 5 years, so that later they can write websites, bots and everything that they pay for.
In general, think about where you see yourself in 10 years, what you like and dislike about education, what prospects you have here and abroad. Compare all this with education and decide. Here, of course, many different questions should arise, for example, what is cybernetics for, what specialty to choose, where and how it is applicable, and so on and so forth. Now ask them on the toaster, look for the contacts of some teachers, head of the department, cool specialists in the chosen specialty, discuss all this with them. Moreover, the opinion of people from this area is more important, the opinions of us and teachers, since you will study for 6 years, and work all your life and this work should be a pleasure.

Boy, this is your life and your future.
Why should someone else make the decision for you?

Take your time, do some analytics (it depends on whether you will connect your life with this profession at all, and even these years of study will not give you professional training, because, for example, you will work as a designer):
0) the first thing you need to understand : "You are studying, not because dad and mom told you so, not because society says - you need a diploma, not because everyone is studying and I am studying! But because you reduce the time of your self-education at the expense of the university - this is it's just your tool to become successful at work. And it is with this specificity of work that you plan to connect your life. And ideally, turn your hobby into a job!"
1) first of all, decide on your future profession,
read my post carefullyHow to start self-education in the field of game industry programming?
2) for example, decided that you want to become a designer. The variant with that university - disappears by itself. See further paragraphs 3,4 ...
3) for example, you have decided that you want to become EXACTLY a programmer or devops, go deeper and clarify what exactly this or that profession does. You need to clarify your specialization. To help you, job search sites (emphasize the requirements for the profession you are interested in), habr, geeks, YouTube ....
4) for example, you have decided that you want to be a programmer specializing in mob. applications for ios. Your next step is to try it out in practice. You find a course: Google and YouTube to help .... You study information on your own (unfortunately, self-study accompanies programmers all their lives) and practically implement knowledge. You see that you don’t like it, then according to the algorithm you go to (item 1). You see that it is interesting and ready for hours to blurt out the keys of the program, and after testing the application on an iPhone, you are on the right track.
5) now you need to analyze what MSU can offer you in comparison with your university regarding the chosen specialization of the profession. Create a main table and fill it with "+" and "-" departments of the university, studying your own and MSU training programs. This analysis takes time and patience, but again you win - patience is an important quality of a programmer. Plus, important analytics will save you years of self-determination and employment in unloved professions.
6) draw the right conclusions. Set aside the priority of the authority of the university for the time being. Without practical knowledge and skills to perform the work for the declared position, you will not get a job even after Cambridge. And I personally know the head of the international department. companies in New York without a high school diploma.
Perhaps Moscow State University, according to your specifics, will not give completeness of knowledge and it would be better to fill it up on your own by delving into your studies. Or take a specific course on the side. If that faculty of Moscow State University gives you the right set of technologies, transfer.
