Is the code still in the database?

Colleagues, tell me: does MODX still store code in the database?
Of course, I am aware that it became possible to use files, but the last time I encountered MODX, the system still dragged their contents into the database, and after updating the files, the changes were not automatically picked up.
How are things going with this now?

If storage in files is needed for Git, then there is Gitify:
modmore.github.io/Gitify/ru

If a static resource is specified, the changes are picked up but the code is duplicated in the database. If you use a hairdryer, then only files.

Updates are picked up if caching is disabled.
