Is it worth installing Astra Linux and how can I replace it?

At the university, on the Open Software discipline, they were asked to install Astra Linux. However, you can put another distribution, is it worth using Astra Linux? How can it be replaced so that there are no significant differences when working with terminals and applications (before that, only Linux mint was used).

AstraLinux is based on Debian. I advise you to install and configure debian, this is no longer a mint, it will be interesting just for yourself. The default appearance is terrible, but quickly customizable.
Astra is distinguished by its custom user rights system, they say, for reliability. How it works in practice is unknown. If in the future there is a possibility of working for our defense industry, then Astra is worth touching. If not, you don't need it.
Well, gui is there, but the difference is small. The applications are the same, the debian turnips are the same.
From Russian, you can pay attention to Rosa Linux, maybe the teacher will also like it.

I'll tell you about my experience. I worked as a programmer at school (I won’t say anything about the correctness of the job title, because, in fact, I have nothing to do with any programming, I’m a system administrator, in some places even enikey - well, or vice versa). The question arose about switching to domestic software, simply because, according to the law, municipal organizations do not have the right to purchase software that is not included in the Russian software registry. And the need to be licensed was completely non-illusory. Began to study the topic. For starters, the operating system. There is Alt Linux, which is in the registry, but it is not free for use in an organization. I contacted open source software "Basalt" - OS developer. The company quite easily agreed to provide the required number of licenses without payment, under the terms of a cooperation agreement, which, in fact, boiled down to the fact that the school on its website publishes information to the public about what Alt Linux uses and how it uses it. The conditions are quite relaxed, what you need. Of course, the kit comes with an office suite - Open Office or Libre Office, I don’t remember exactly, but, as we all know, all the documentation of any organization is presented in docx and xlsx, with which Libra is not compatible without formatting. I started looking for options. The first option is MyOffice Development LLC New Cloud Technologies. Firstly, by no means did I manage to find, either in free access or on other resources, distribution kits just to at least evaluate what the software is. Nevertheless, I contacted the developers and the necessary number of licenses was provided for the school without any problems. But, although MyOffice with compatibility with MS formats is doing much better than Libra, but, nevertheless, it is not ideal. I have known and used the OnlyOffice package for a long time, which is free for private use and is really tailored to work with MS file formats, I would estimate compatibility at 99 percent. Yes, OnlyOffice for organizations is not free and it is not in the Russian software registry . But it turns out that there is a version that, in fact, is one-to-one OnlyOffice, only called P7 Office - and this version is in the registry, but, again, it is not free for organizations. I contacted the developer - New Communication Technologies JSC - and, again, there were no problems with obtaining free licenses for the school - the developer is ready to provide the required number of licenses. The whole gag was that, according to the developer, the procedure for the transfer of licenses has not been determined and they are waiting for the first reciprocal step from the regional Ministry of Education. He brought the director of the school up to date, explained the situation, because. further actions are already administrative work. Thus, in reality, it turned out that it is possible to provide the school with licensed software and not spend a penny on it, which, of course, pleases. But I didn’t finish this whole topic to the end, because. quit, i.e. did not finally agree on the licensing of P7 Office, but this is really worthy software. that it is possible to provide the school with licensed software and not spend a penny on it, which, of course, pleases. PS My answer is more about implementation, but let it be as it is, perhaps it will be useful to someone.

Mint or any other debian will do. It is
better to check with the teacher the reason for installing that craft and what will be used from it

@sotvm

and I will advise mint
without dancing with a tambourine (as in debian) everything will be set up beautifully
if the task = not to use, but just put = I don’t see the difference at all ???
install at least bubuntu, at least debian, at least a minute,
the time will take 5-15 minutes (depending on the speed of the screw
