Is it safe to use open-source CMS for online stores?

1 Should I be afraid of hacking if the online store is created on a free engine?
2 Most of all I'm interested in how things are with security in OpenCart, maybe there is something better for small - medium-sized online stores, both in terms of functionality and in terms of security?
3 Are paid engines much safer?

nothing is eternal, at my work we are now moving from a self-written engine to opencart. In general, everything suits. In paid engines, fixes come out less often, but this is if you don’t write a fix yourself. So if you have a progger behind your back with hands from your shoulders, then you can put cards and not think for a long time.

Drupal is a great free CMS. Paid ones are no different from free ones in terms of security. It all depends on who will develop your store and for how much :)

The security of an open source project is good due to the community, which helps not only to find these bugs (holes), but also to fix them. So you don't have to worry.
And you should only worry about Nulled (null, hacked engines), as well as all the different assemblies of engines ala "12 modules + engine all in one"

There are holes in any software, both paid and free, the question is how many people fix all this. Free communities have a large, but low responsibility, paid ones have their own troubles. Pluses and minuses equalize positions. The main thing is not to use a broken line. Here it is necessary to choose based on clear requirements - what is best for the project. Good luck!
