Is it relevant now to use gif for the preloader?

1. If ie7 support is needed - is it relevant to use gif for the entire site? Considering that the drawn preloader has a complex animation, which is possible, but rather difficult to reproduce using css.
2. Is it worth drawing a unique preloader that, for example, plays around with the logo. Or will it look:
a) Too pretentious
b) Too vulgar?
If there are examples of sites with unique preloaders (playing around with the logo), then it will be great in general) Thank you.

The mobile Googlemail preloader is made in the style of their logo (4x color ball).

1. Yes.
2. No.
I believe that the preloader should show the progress of the script or program where appropriate, the percentage of work done from the total task, the size of the processed information from the total, for example, receiving / transmitting a file, compressing into an archive, loading modules, etc.
What will the preloader made from the logo show?

No, it won’t, of course, if you don’t make the preloader cooler and more interesting than the information that will be loaded))
If it is simple, and even with meaning or emphasizes the style / brand of the company, then in my opinion it will be great.
