If this makes sense or is it better not to bother?
I read somewhere that search engines do not pay attention to robots and climb everywhere, even if it states that it is unnecessary to climb there.
The Sitemap itself should be generated or the search engines behave differently now ...
And what else is needed for the normal promotion of the site? (not counting the unique competent content, this is understandable)

Of course it's relevant. These two things affect indexing and search results. Close the admin panel there and what you don’t particularly want to show to bots, and allow the rest. As far as I know, spiders do not climb what is forbidden. keywords is not taken into account by Google, but Yandex is still taken into account)
For normal promotion, you need to start developing the site from collecting semantics or, if the site is not new, from updating the semantic core and fitting sections to key queries, you also need to make the content diverse - videos, pictures, texts, which must also be optimized through alt meta tags (pictures) , description, title (texts), and make them useful to people. In addition, you need to lighten the site and make it as mobile friendly as possible, because everyone googles already mainly from mobile devices, and you can think about adding voice search keys to the site, because this is also an SEO 2020 trend.

If you have a shitty website with 100 pages, then of course it’s not relevant. If something is serious, then this is a must-have.
