Is it possible to work remotely when programming microcontrollers?

Remote work for c++, php, etc. programmers - an understandable question. And what about freelancing for microcontroller programming? Is this possible with sufficient diversity of the employee-customer (different cities)? What are the features, difficulties, the most popular micro or FPGAs, if such work is possible?
update. For example, MK - Stm.

Remote work is possible, but it is usually very difficult, especially if the qualifications of the people next to the iron are low.
The specifics of debugging embedded systems is that it is necessary to observe how the program inside the MC interacts with the real world (measure the voltage here, see the current there, poke here with an oscilloscope ...). At a distance, this is often difficult.

Obviously you need an FPGA emulator or bare metal for testing, everything else is the same programming.

Everything is possible, but you will still have that hemorrhagic.

You would say what exactly you will do. Suddenly you have to hold a real piece of iron once a year in your hands?
Then it won't hurt at all.

Maybe. You can't debug everything on models. The customer sends iron, you work. There are many difficulties, since not any serious iron can be sent. You need to have a bunch of measuring equipment. Therefore, I would look around in search of a permanent customer, that is, remote work, and not freelance. There are an order of magnitude fewer orders in this area than in other areas of programming. As a rule, the customer needs a finished device, and not just a program for it.

I note that often hardware developers on microcontrollers (and corresponding MK programmers) are jack of all trades and develop from and to
BUT there are large enterprises where there is a good division of labor and MK programmers only do programming

If the shipment does not take much time, then I do not see the problem. In Ukraine, New mail to any point - in a day. And the developer needs to transfer iron for anyone.
