Is it possible to use an abandoned library (4 years ago) along with new versions of the programming language?

I was interested in one project for Ruby, called Ray
and I would like to know: The project has not been updated for about 5 years, and the Ruby language itself is being updated (2.5.1). Can I use version 2.5.1 along with this library?

The library has unit tests.
Run them on your version of Ruby and see what happens.
