Is it possible to update a webapp application on iOS 8 when changing cache.manifest?

The html tag contains manifest="cache.manifest", returned with the correct mime-type.
According to the documentation, if the cache.manifest file has changed, the browser will update the files specified in cache.manifest and window.applicationCache will respond with UPDATEREADY. It really works if we use safari or chrome. If we added our application to the Home Screen, any changes to cache.manifest have no effect on updates, and window.applicationCache always responds with an error.
Is it even possible to update a webapp application on iOS 8 when changing cache.manifest? Or does iOS only allow you to cache a webapp app once?
