Is it possible to track the address bar in a Google Chrome extension?

Hello. I want to make an extension that, when entering a certain site, would track the address bar and redirect to a mirror. I looked in the API, there doesn’t seem to be anything like that (well, or I looked badly), or you can get by with the usual document.location tools, and the main question is, will it work with js tools? Thank you.
