Is it possible to store points on the map on the side of google maps or similar?

You need to do:
* search for the nearest stores sorted by distance
* get stores within the coordinates of the rectangle, to display points on the map.
On which third-party service can I save the geo-coordinates of stores + their IDs in order to do such a search later?
Or is it better to use Postgresql + PostGIS? He can't do it without PostGIS, can he?
