I'm studying web development, I also decided to try my hand at mobile applications using React Native.

Is android studio necessary or can it be replaced with something more lightweight?

The problem is that I have a weak laptop.
I don't remember exactly the specifications.
RAM - 4GB
Video card - ..... 1GB

you need to install jdk anyway. In general, you cannot try react native without androyd studio because there is a moment when installing the environment when it will be problematic without studio. The only thing I can advise is to either update the PC and try to run the application not on the emulator (because it eats up the processor a lot) but on a real phone.
