Is it possible to reflash a smart tv box and put ubuntu or an equivalent there?

There is an idea to buy just such a tv box , reflash and get a mini-computer. The price is cheaper than orange pi (the computer itself, case, power).
I'm thinking of making a home web server / torrent downloader / file cleaner from a flashed minicomputer.
1. Is it possible to change the system?
2. Has anyone tried this?
3. What disadvantages do you see in this approach?
