Is it possible to read SMS messages using IP telephony?

I will say right away that I am far from the topic of an IP telephony device and everything connected with it, so I would like to get a simple answer to a simple question)
I know for sure that you can make and receive calls through various VoIP services using your number ( not virtual), i.e. the one that you specify in the SIP settings and verify. Is it possible to read all the messages that come to me on this number in the same way?

First of all, be precise in terminology.
What do you mean by "sms"?
If this is a normal message in the data network, then there are no questions.
If these are the same SMS (namely, a "short text message") that are regulated by the Rules for the provision of telephone services, then they are transmitted over the telephone network.
