That is, leave the original template to work, and when I pull the second one, then switch. Or do you still have to make a template on a local copy, and then upload it?

Yes, it's possible. Copy the template you want to change in the admin panel, then go to the settings and set the condition for the user group Admin or another that a new template will be shown for them
