Is it possible to not mark emails from "categories" as read in gmail?

Previously, I used pop3 to receive mail and everything was OK.
I finally decided to try IMAP...
The problem is that Google itself sorts letters into "its own" categories. Sorting, as I understand it, is not disabled. But it’s figs with him, you can play around with filters ...
Worse, it’s now very inconvenient for me to receive mail in the form I’m used to - all sorts of messages about topic updates on the forums, for example, now in "social networks" and, if dumped into the general mail - they are there as if read.
Accordingly, Thunderbird, when receiving this mail, shows them as read.
Can this be changed somehow?

@ollisso

go to gmail.com through a browser, and turn off the grouping by category.
To do this, click on the plus sign next to the categories, and remove the checkmarks.
or in the settings - bookmark inbox
