Is it possible to manage Win7 applications?

Is there a library/way to manipulate windows applications and track feedback. A slightly more complex analogue of a macro is needed.
Example:
1) The application tries to send an email using the Outlook visual interface and reports if it failed.
2) The application tries to connect to the VPN using the Open VPN visual interface and reports if it fails.

@Shwed_Berlin

applications that simulate a GUI click come to mind.
It has little to do with programming, though..... although you can write whole scripts there with program window analysis, conditional jumps, etc.
I will not give you specific names - I did not use it myself.
