Is it possible to make subdomains as folders if the site is in the /var/www folder and the subdomains are in /var/?

Trying to set up subdomains as folders can't access folders in /var/ can this be disabled on the server and if so where ?

Virtual hosts can be configured anywhere where the user under which Apache is running has read access.
