Is it possible to make elasticsearch work on 512 RAM?

Actually the question is that at 512 RAM elasticsearch crashes when trying to make a search.
I use a $5 VPS on DigitalOcean.

In general, it is possible. I have a confirmed example of simultaneous operation of three instances (I needed exactly three separate instances, yes) in virtualbox with 1024 MB of memory, it worked stably. It turned out somewhere around 200mb for each instance.
Naturally, as the size of the indexes grows, this will not be enough, so it will be easier for you to buy a more powerful server.

Quite. True, it depends on the amount of data that you will search for and want to index.
