Is it possible to leave the assets table empty (in relation to materials)?

There is: joomla 3. Import ~1,000,000 articles into the standard component and they have about ~500 categories. Imported, filled in the assets table - everything is bad - goes to nirvana in the admin panel with the words: 1 giga is not enough and 60 seconds is not enough. (when opening the 1st article).

I deleted the entries in the assets (I didn't disable the check (ACL), but deleted it. Because disabling did not give anything in terms of speed.)
After deleting, everything started to fly. In the admin panel... In the external side: when trying to view some category, it opens one material (1st in the list by some attribute, but not id and not "assets id"). Instead of viewing a category. Those. the link changes, and the material gets out, instead of the content of the category - what is actually the magic (in the admin panel, the viewing of the material also works - quickly, and the search)?

Note: if I go to the category (in the admin panel - edit) and save it (do not "rebuild" in the list of categories) - everything starts working. (The categories were created using built-in functions, and the materials were manually written to the content table)
