Is it possible to freelance, creating "non-standard" projects?
I have an intolerance to creating boring template business card sites or online stores on WordPress (yes, even if they pay a million). I want to work on something more difficult, write from scratch (well, with a framework), should I buy a subscription to a freelance site like this?)

Try to imagine yourself as a customer. What does he need? The result in a short time and sane money. He is not interested in your emotional experiences, only the result.
Can you offer something that is an order of magnitude better than the "boring" options? What is the benefit to the customer from this?
Of course you can. Examples of orders with FL below:

Development of a software and hardware device for people with disabilities 9,500,000 rubles. for the project

Symphony + React + several APIs 100,000 rubles. for the project

Writing firmware and software for embeded devices 150,000 rubles. per month
There are sites and non-sites. But such projects will require follow-up support of course. And either you will provide it, or Satisfied with Life is right, you will become uninteresting to the customer.
Not for everyone, of course, but if you have creativity and skills, invest in your own projects - invent, drink, launch. Use freelancing only to keep your pants on and hit your topic. If you are a good specialist, then freelancing will not take much time, and you will direct your ambitions and the remaining time to your brainchild. In the long run, this is a much better investment of time and effort. Plus, you're not limited by anyone.
PS The question somehow reminded me of an old joke - something like "Where to invest money - stir up a startup or take a doshik today?" )))
You will first learn how to make non-template designs in the office.
Wanting one thing means doing another.
I'm writing CRMki, ERPshki and so on, sharpened for business, no stereotypes.
But I can, and judging by what I see in legacy projects, very few people can freelance. They just write, and then I save these projects.
But there is work thanks to such masters)
Your fun project should come with the same fun documentation. To the price of x2! Who needs it?
