Is it possible to flash a device through a virtual machine on VirtualBox?

The laptop is running Linux Mint and Windows 8.1.
I want to reflash the tablet, but there are a maximum of drivers for Windows 7. I don’t want to install a third system (and there will be a lot of fuss, the laptop lives on UEFI), so I’m thinking of installing it on VirtualBox.
Does the virtual machine (with the guest addition installed) have full access to the host's USB subsystem so that it is possible to flash the equipment without any problems?
Once I forwarded the printer to the guest OS, there were no complaints, but I'm worried how not to corrupt the tablet with such hacks.

@Cybran

Should work. I flashed equipment from under WinXP in a virtual machine. The main thing is to set the rule that all devices from this Vendor ID should be immediately connected to the virtual machine, and not to the host.
