Is it possible to determine the BIOS version in a new motherboard without starting it?

Now all processors have become heavily dependent on microcode updates and support in the BIOS. Is it possible to determine which BIOS version is flashed at the factory when buying a motherboard (specifically ASUS). Can the serial number be decrypted somehow or is there a portal in the support?
