Is it possible to create btrfs without a partition?

I make a small backup server, created a btrfs raid of 3 disks. Merged sda , sdc , sdd . There was a normal ext4 sdb.
I mounted sda in fstab and everything, the flight is normal.
df - h
/ dev / sda 5.5T 4.5M 4.6T 1% / backup
in volume everything converges and everything works, but then I saw a couple of guides on the Internet and vague doubts began to torment me, people in them make an sda1 partition on the disk, for example, and it is being manipulated.

So here's how to do it right and what can go wrong in my case?

Fine. It's just the only partition on the disk.
