Is it possible to connect mini displayPort to thunderbolt 2 on MacBook Pro 13'' Early 2015?

Hello, I have the following situation. There is a MacBook Pro 13'' Early 2015 laptop. As far as I understand, it has 2 thunderbolt 2 ports. There is a need to connect an external monitor via mini DisplayPort. Externally, the connectors are identical. Can I connect mini DisplayPort to thunderbolt 2?
Specification states: Thunderbolt
digital video output

  • Standard Mini DisplayPort output
  • DVI, VGA, dual-link DVI, HDMI output supported via Mini DisplayPort adapters (sold separately)

And
Connectivity and Expansion:
  • MagSafe 2 power connector
  • Two Thunderbolt 2 ports (up to 20 Gbps)
  • Two USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gb/s)
  • HDMI port
  • 3.5mm headphone output
  • SDXC card slot
  • Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter (sold separately)
  • Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (sold separately)

Those. Based on this, I can kind of connect, but again in another source , apple indicates that:
  • Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt ports are different from the Mini DisplayPort port. Their shape is the same, but the designations on the cable and connector are different.

Can you shed some light on this issue?
PS: You can also connect a monitor via HDMI, but then at a resolution of 2560x1080, the frequency will be only 30 Hz. And I really want at least 60 Hz.
Thank you!
