As far as I remember, there is no such possibility in the API (or I worked with it for too long and did not see any changes).
And so - the procedure is performed no less simply. Open botfather, type "/mybots", then edit Name or EditBotPick. You can make a crutch, of course, but there is no point in it, since the procedure is trivially simple.
Yes, I understand that the question was about the API, but it is also necessary to mention the usual method.
