Is it possible to bloodlessly upgrade a project from Laravel 5.1 to the current version (8.x)?

There is a project on Laravel 5.1 - is it possible to somehow upgrade it to the current one (8) in 5 minutes and not break anything?

Does anyone have such experience?

I just don't know about backwards compatibility and how simple it all is.

Carefully and consistently upgrade to 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x by reading Release Notes and Upgrade Guide.
