Is it possible to add elements to an XSD schema without changing it, or to inherit it?

Let's say we have an XSD schema with an element containing other elements.
Is it possible to expand it from the outside, i.e. without changing the schema itself so that new elements are available in test?
Those. somehow create a new scheme that will inherit this one and add the necessary elements to it.
