Is it possible for some applications to work through the VPN and others directly through the provider's network?

It's simple - network games on Steam lag when they work with the network through vpn. It is necessary that Steam and games from it work through the Dom.ru network (provider) and the rest also through VPN (OpenVPN Gui v5). In techsap where I bought vpn they said that it is impossible only if through a virtual machine, this option is not suitable. Help me please.

Under Windows, you can look in the direction of proxifiers (proxycap maybe) - they replace winsock with themselves and do anything. Under Linux - network namespaces.
For your case, it is enough to add routes to the game servers (usually their addresses are known) through the desired gateway.

On Windows, this cannot be done. Linux to the rescue.

Perhaps, if you refuse VPN, then the question is what it is used for, if you can refuse it to encrypt traffic in favor of an https proxy

I have the same problem. I can't believe that nowadays, on the most popular OS, there is no simple technical possibility to let all traffic through the VPN, except for certain applications/addresses! Experienced admins, advise something :)
