Is it possible (and with what) browser extension to change the server address (as through /etc/hosts)?

A typical situation - when moving to another server, you need to drag the site and check it on the new server (as long as the DNS record points to the old one). We do it traditionally through /etc/hosts, we prescribe www.example.com 1.2.3.4 (new IP address) there.
The question is - are there any additions so that without touching /etc/hosts, just in the addon settings, set the IP address for the DNS name, to which the browser should resolve it? And is it possible in principle, or does the DNS resolving stage not pass through browser extensions?
All attempts to google something about addons and changing IP give the wrong results (all sorts of VPNs and other proxies).

@AlexanderMi

It is written in a couple of lines if I remember correctly all the APIs, but it has never been tested)
In general, the question is a rather strange question. DNS is updated for a maximum of 24 hours (all over the world), and adequate admins trumpet about it long before they move and post a new address on the old domain, not to mention the banal redirection from the old domain to the new one.
By the way, there are extensions ready, for example: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/host-swi...
Just sharpened by the developer for developers.
