Is it dangerous to update the ubuntu kernel to the latest by compiling it with handles?
So I did uname-a and found that the kernel is a bit old: 3.13.0-46-generic, while this is the last kernel in the repositories, i.e. as new as possible for ubuntu, as I understand it. In other distributions, the kernel is already 4 or higher versions.
So, if I manually compile the kernel, as I once did in gentoo, and start using it, will the system continue to work? Does Ubuntu use its own kernel, its own developments in it, and is it different from the standard Linux one? Or what I conceived - will start and work?
This version of the kernel on the server annoys me, because the old kernel is more likely to be vulnerable to the system. If I experiment on the desktop and everything works out, will it then work on the server without problems, or does the server ubunta differ not only in the "lack of x", roughly speaking?

Canonical is providing long-term support for the 3.13 kernel, which will receive updates until April 2016. Tyts .
It is worth relaxing and directing etergy to something useful (or pleasant).
