Is CyanogenMOD a full-fledged firmware or an add-on over an OS already installed on an Android smartphone?
https://youtu.be/qkK1rPsJZAk 15:02 the author says that cyanogenmod just modifies the system. So, when installing CyanigenMOD, will the old android be erased or will cyan just stand above the android installed on the phone?

Everything will be erased.
This is a custom separate firmware (system image).
