Is a swap file necessary?

We have: Server on 2x XENON X3 24 GB RAM 3SSD intel 510 series. In connection with the transition to free software, we put Ubuntu Server 12.04 x64 on it. Purpose - WEB server for hosting Joomla+JoomSocial+Virtuemart+K2+ Red5 Server and a few small components. Do I need a swap file (SWAP) for Ubuntu? And how can its presence affect the SSD?

Some programs have memory leaks, so if you set vm.swappiness to non-aggressive swapping, then the leaked memory will just go there. And it's better to let it be on disk than in memory, memory is useful at least for disk cache.

I don't think it's needed, you won't have over a billion hits, will you? Although the configuration indicates a serious attitude.

1) It is always needed, what should the system do if it suddenly needs a lot of memory, but the file cache did not have time to free it?
2) If the server is not overloaded, the paging file is almost never used and does not affect the ssd in any way, besides, you probably have a raid and it doesn’t matter to you if the ssd is broken, they changed it.
