iPod and Ubuntu can live together?

I have Ubuntu 12.04. I want to make friends with her ipod nano or better shuffle. How do they get along now? What does uploading files look like? (Better without iTunes and its analogues.) What pitfalls and unnatural rituals await me?

(About five years ago, I treated the shuffle with a python script, after which the iPod began to see the uploaded files.)

I uploaded music to my ipod via gtkpod. It did not cause any particular inconvenience. Recommend.

And my old iPod Video is flashed with RockBox and there are no problems - you connect and upload files like on a USB flash drive, rockbox reads them in folders, with the ability to create a library and play by artist / album and so on.
Nano is supported , not sure about shuffle.
