Internet shop. Buy or make your own?
Good afternoon. Not very strong in web development, so I have the following question for you. Let's say I need an online store. Unpretentious. No unique design needed. You need a couple of pages of ordinary information. And a catalog of goods so that you can choose to add to the basket and place an order. You don't even need to pay by card. You only need cash on delivery. And here comes the question. The developers are asking for 35,000. But I myself can install WP woocomers on it, download a free theme for it and add my own products. So that's the question. Is it really worth 35,000, or are there some pitfalls unknown to me. The store would like to be promoted. Will a free theme interfere with this? And in general, what is the use of free topics.

Use opencart / ocstore - a ready-made online store. There are free templates on bootstrape. There are also free modules.
The admin panel in the opencart is understandable, you will click for two days and you will understand everything.
1. The developers will talk to you about a clear technical task.
2. They will change something in the topic to your taste or even change it.
3. They will install all the necessary modules and configure them.
4. It turns out that you need some unique blocks or functionality that is not in the standard package.
5. There will be some additional questions.
6. Then another long process of delivery and acceptance of work and receipt of money.
The number of hours actually spent by a developer can be quite impressive, and they naturally want to be paid for it.
If you have the skills and desire, you can start doing it yourself, and call a specialist for some specific minor improvements. It would be good to be confident in skills so that it does not turn out that everything has to be done from scratch.
This will be cheaper in terms of direct financial costs.
But if you, for example, are the director of this online store and count the hours spent at your director's rate, then it may turn out that 35,000 is baby talk.
Well, let's just say that the question is whether it is advisable to use a free theme and whether it will affect everything else (promotion, the site itself), if we assume that I am completely satisfied with this functionality of the wokomers and this theme.
Don't do it yourself, delegate. At first glance, it seems simple - installed the "engine", pulled a free theme and filled it with goods. But all this "amateurishness" will be repulsed by SEO, conversions, loading speed... And these factors determine the level of income... Start studying Internet marketing and you will understand that free themes do not bring recognition, they have layout problems. That the site is technically prepared incorrectly does not contribute to SEO promotion and the amateurish selling text ruins the conversion...
Start with the conversion...
A few years ago, I also faced a similar choice, I called many offices engaged in promotion, until I came across mosseo.ru, two years of cooperation and my project is in the TOP, and op this day, and at prices more adequate than I found.
If you think that 35,000 is a lot, then you clearly do not know the rates. Personally, I participated in the creation of sites on opencart worth from 150,000, but of course they are with an individual design
