Installing Windows 7 as a second system alongside Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS?
Situation: the laptop is running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, working and fully customized. It is necessary to install Windows 7 as the second system. As far as I understand, the main problem is that the bootloader can be overwritten and ubuntu will come to an end.
How to solve this problem without using a virtual machine, and saving the already working ubuntu?

Restoring grub is a 5 minute job: http://goo.gl/3Z1z
Just today at work I did what you need according to this manual. (Ubuntu was there, then I installed windows7) / True, 2 partitions for Windows were previously allocated on the hard disk (although I allocated ubunta during installation).
I did not want to do update-grub (that is, the bootloader did not see the seven). After the reboot, I made this update-grub from under the live system.
The penguins are alive, the windows are intact, everyone is happy
Most importantly, do not touch the sections that you did for ubuntu. Windows will only overwrite the MBR-record at the beginning of the disk. After installing Windows, you will need to boot from the same installation disk. An example instruction is here . Remember that if you do not touch the ubunta partitions, then you will not lose anything, and reinstalling GRUB as written above is a five-minute job
