Installing Win7 on SSD. IDE vs AHCI. Should I think?
Greetings, Khabrovites!
I want to install Windows 7 on a brand new SSD. There was a question of the interface: IDE or AHCI. I read a lot where that the IDE is outdated, and you need to immediately go into the BIOS and set AHCI.
But here's the question that arose in my head: if the IDE is the default, then for some reason it was put there? Does IDE have any advantages over AHCI, or should it be replaced without thinking?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
UPD: there is also a terabyte HDD in the system, but I don’t think that this somehow affects the question ...

Only AHCI, does not work on IDE Trim. Well, it's better to boot into UEFI if the mother supports it.
We open the wiki . Wow, how interesting! True, the article has the feeling that a drunken Mitsgol wrote it, but the advantages of the coveted AHCI are generally described there (the English version , by the way, is much better written).
In short, a SATA screw implies AHCI. Why the hell do you need PATA(IDE) emulation on a SATA(AHCI) device? In the BIOS, PATA-mode is left for compatibility.

I didn’t go into much depth, but I know from experience that ANCI does not work with Win XP, and most likely, your BIOS is of an old version (or rather, the default settings are sharpened for old Windows).
AHCI in my experience on the seven works somehow faster than IDE. The IDE is now left more for compatibility, as I was told, maybe this is not so, but I also tend to this idea.
You will only benefit from an SSD on AHCI and only on SATA II/III. In other cases, you can not bother
IDE has no advantage over AHCI when using an SSD.
There are disadvantages. Lot.
IDE by default is only in the BIOS of older MPs for "start at any cost".
