Installing SSD and HDD in an Acer TravelMate TMP256-MG-32VZ laptop?

I installed an SSD instead of a HDD (Segate 5400RPM 500GB). HDD put in replacements DVD-ROM on a skid. As a result, everything is beautiful and fast, but the HDD starts to get terribly stupid when you try to just go to it. Sometimes even the system cannot determine how much space is on logical drives. Tried to use HDD via USB 3.0. Works fine.
What can be and how to make the HDD work in a skid?
I see no reason to use the HDD as an external one.

@Natterum

Replacing the hard drive helped. There was a disk from Segate, I installed Toshiba

check which interface the BIOS sees it with, it expects SDROM there - reduced bandwidth requirements, i.e. maybe not SATA
