In what direction should you start moving if you only programmed at school?
Hello everyone, I want to ask such a question, in which direction to start learning programming? I did it at school (I wrote simple programs, won Olympiads), but then I entered a completely different specialty. Now I want to start programming again, but there are a few things I want to discuss. The goal is a level of programming skills worthy of applying for a job as a beginner / trainee.
1) Which area to choose? There are many areas of interest to me - like the web. programming (front-end), and programming for mobile platforms. Everything depends on demand, I live in Yekaterinburg, I would not say that we have many companies.
2) What language to choose? I have basic c++ skills, but less and less is heard about it.
3) Where to start? I tried to learn JS, but I just don’t know where to apply the theory and therefore the whole fuse fades. It would be ideal to have a mentor, but I don't know anyone who does programming.

1. Where to start?
This is the most common question I receive. The answer is quite simple: take your hobby (music, sports, numismatics) and make a website, mobile app and/or game for it. First write a site in PHP, then in ASP.NET, then develop an Android application, then port it to iOS. And then try putting the site on hosting, promoting it, and publishing the mobile application in one of the app stores. You will get minimal, but still experience of the full cycle of project development from idea to publication, and this can be indicated in your resume. And at the end of the journey, you will know exactly what suits you best.
