Icons in dropdown menu?

I tried to insert a bootstrap glyphicon into the dropdown menu. The icon only appears after opening the menu, which doesn't look very good. An example is here https://jsfiddle.net/ahp5e2ay/3/ (open Dropdown). Does anyone know how to overcome this?
