I want to set up a server for office with redmine. Which OS to choose?
Task: There is an old Phenom working sistemnik some. 8GB of RAM.
I want to make a redmine server out of it in the office with Internet access.
Without monik, with the ability to connect remotely and administer (SSH, FTP, etc.)
Question:
A clean Ubuntu was already installed there (I'm not special in linux)
I tried according to the instructions: https://www.redmineup.com/pages/help/ installation/... install redmine. But various errors appeared, the absence of packages and a bunch of things that I don’t know yet. As a result, I think now ubuntu reinstall and try again.
Tell me, maybe then don't choose ubuntu. What about something else for my purpose? Ubuntu Server or something simpler? Where is nginx, apache2, mysql and more already in the assembly?
I'm not going to use it as a work computer. That is, I do not need all applications, shells, and so on.

It is worth trying to install Redmine , but this time through the regular package manager . It will also install the web server, DBMS and other dependencies on its own.
In my opinion, in this way everything will be installed in a couple of clicks and all that remains is to change some settings such as the SMTP server, etc.
8GB of RAM? Enough and 2-4.
Debian.
Although you can leave the rebellion.
P.S. Linux is not reinstalled, this is purely a Windows habit.
Choose the OS that you know more.
Or first install it on a virtual machine and play around.
OS, I would choose between Centos7 or Ubuntu16, whichever is closer, with the installation of redmine you can not bother at all, but push it into the docker (naturally, the database is not stored in a container), this will allow you to easily update and install it without pain (at least 10 minutes), I did it for my own purposes
You can install everything through docker

Redmine is written in Ruby, so you need to install Ruby and a huge bunch of gems. Well, Apache, of course. That is:
- apache
- ruby
- rack
- gems (installed via rack)
- redmine
You need to choose the distribution that you know, or you know someone who knows it;) for redmine as such, there is no difference
