I urgently need to use messages.getHistory but it doesn't work, how can I do it?

There is a very urgent need to restore deleted messages in the VK dialog using messages.getHistory (the dialog itself is not deleted, as far as I know, otherwise it would be pointless to try) but I ran into a problem, on the VK website it says that I need to use messages.getHistory access key, I want to get it but I can’t figure out how, I do everything as it is written (well, or apparently not everything :D ) but no matter how it turns out, what am I doing wrong, and how to use the API in general, this is the first experience for me and I need help. Maybe I didn’t ask the right question or I’m talking nonsense, but I ask you to help me, I will be very grateful.
