I found out that storyboards do not work on older versions of OS X, of which there are still a lot. What to use? XIB?

NIB? custom code? What kind of animal is each of them?
Custom code, is it when they manually write code with NSWindow and so on in Swift?

I don’t know where you got the info from, but there were already storyboards in iOS6. Now even iOS7's market share is negligible. So make storyboards and don't worry.
