I am 30 years old, what can I become in IT in a month (not trolling, please take it seriously)?
Hello!
Please don't troll, take it seriously.
Such a situation - I worked as an "enikey worker" after uni from '08 to the present in the same company, until it went bankrupt. Now he has been unemployed for 3 days.
Somehow I didn’t save money, and the salary was small, correspondingly to not hard work, so I can live without work for two months, because. no housing is owned.
At work, I did what Enikey people usually do - rebooted computers, upgraded hardware, maintained the company's website (WordPress, business card website, nothing serious).
After my dismissal, I tried to analyze my current skills, it turned out that, in general, I don’t know anything from technologies, skills, only a little - rearrange the Windows, write a script in PHP with Google, edit the HTML code, clean the laptop from dust and replace thermal paste. In general, it is unlikely that with such skills, and at the age of 30, I will be of interest to employers in IT.
Question - dear IT specialists, programmers, engineers, tell me, are there such areas in IT, the skill for which can really be learned in a month?
Why IT - tk. I am a "techie" (ha-ha), I studied at the ACS, I worked as an enikey worker, I don’t know anything except for computers.
I fully understand that I will have to start from the "minus level" of my career - an intern, an intern, give-bring-don't flicker. And this is fair, because. for so many years I have not mastered anything in demand from skills or knowledge, wasting time watching cool videos, chatting on forums and playing games, during breaks performing non-stressful duties of a technical specialist in a small company.
So far, the only way in mind is to study the syntax of the Russian-language YaP 1C: Accounting and go to try out for a trainee position in a 1C franchisee.
You can also install low-voltage and LAN, but I'm allergic to strong dust, which is a lot in ventilation, ducts, in offices under tables.
I don’t even think about freelancing - because. I looked at what kind of competition there is, the people compete fiercely for tasks of 100 rubles. With copywriting, the situation is the same, people are ready to dump up to 10-15 rubles for a kilo sign of copyright, just to get a job.
Another option is to become a salesperson, but this means losing the opportunity to develop in IT by moving into sales. Yes, and much more stress there, I really appreciate my small salesmanship.
Many thanks to everyone who subscribes!
Sincerely,
Alexey
Update:
Friends, thank you very much!
I did not even expect that the Toaster has such a pleasant, caring and responsive community!
What I decided:
After thinking and weighing all the pros and cons, I finally decided that I like the development more than the administration.
Development is an opportunity to create something new, at such moments when I successfully managed to create scripts in PHP that solved the necessary tasks, for example, complex sorting of data from a company's customer database, displaying data on the website in a widget based on the availability of assortment - I was just happy :-)
I think it's mine, development.
In terms of technology, I like PHP and with Google I can write a not very complicated script, but according to vacancies, it seems that all PHP programmers are front-end and back-end geniuses, master all-rounders, replacing a layout designer, front-end developer, back-end developer, database admin, server admin, tester, web interface designer and system architect. For some reason, I didn’t find “pure” Junior Back-end PHP programmers in vacancies, everywhere a huge stack of front-end technologies is required, including JS and layout.
In a month or two, I definitely won’t learn everything I need at the Junior trainee level, it’s too much.
The option with YP 1C will be postponed for the time being.
Now I will dig in Python.
And I will now study the option if I work on oDesk, as a remote work. I wonder if it "shines" there for a conscientious beginner without practical experience, anything?
Once again I want to thank everyone who unsubscribed, your support gave me strength!
Alexei

Wow, this is a very popular topic. There are a lot of us here, newbies. I'll sign off too.
I have a similar situation, but it was even worse, and I'm more old ... I started with the following. I freed up maximum time for self-study by removing and reducing TV, Internet, telephone, etc. In order to have at least some kind of income, he advertised in a free newspaper - "Computer Help and Tel." For recreation, I chose jogging. I bought books and began to study.
From the beginning it was very bad: I was overcome by laziness, there was no income, and 3-4 laps around the stadium were not easy. Endured a month and a half. I typed the first site in HTML from some template for a friend, there were calls asking me to get rid of viruses, I ran 5 km in an easy way ... I
got into a rut and lived in rhythm for a long time: From morning to lunch, training, after lunch hack,
Now: I spend most of my time studying (“I eat up” RNR, English was added), I eat hacks (no more than 4 hours) I don’t fatten, but I have enough work, in the evening I prepare for a marathon (I have already run half). I look closely, like many here, freelancing. I'm finishing my portfolio.
So choose web programming! Personally, having plunged into it, I almost discovered America for myself.
Please forgive me for being offtopic, but I can't resist uploading this picture
May I be a little rude?
I'm sorry, but judging by how you evaluate yourself - there is nothing special to give a fuck. At the age of 30, people are already team leads and have a solid store of knowledge. If everything is as you write, then you have very little experience. Reinstalling Windows, just like installing WordPress, is the very bottom of IT, these are banal low-paid things, what is your interest in staying in this swamp?
for so many years I have not mastered anything in demand from skills or knowledge, wasting time watching cool videos, chatting on forums and playing gamesYou should have developed earlier when you had time. When you worked as an Eniekischik, you had to sit and study something. It's strange that you didn't.
If you are interested in the web, I would advise you to start with the usual HTML layout. There are already four pluses here:
1) after a couple of weeks of training, you will be able to go to the position of "junior layout designer" and you will have a small salary
2) you will have real tasks and experience, not tasks in the style of "learn Python, PHP , Linux, OOP, ....."
3) all the same, the basics of layout are needed for both backed and frontend developers, then you can choose where to go next
4) you can not go into programming at all and do high-quality layout with html5 / css3 adaptive - this is also very much in demand now
. Good luck.
I have a somewhat similar situation :
now I'm studying Python as a framework, for starters I use ( Flask , then I think to study Django ) took a course on edx.org, today I'm finishing courses in St. Petersburg on Python (ITMO). Wrote a card game with a web interface.
As the applied area liked Web Development, I plan to leave TechSupport in the future.
Despite the presence of leadership skills and the ability to organize the work of employees, there are no prospects in this direction at the current place. I don’t rule out growth to TeamLead :) I
use GitHub at the initial level (to sharpen my skills I will finish and improve my graduation project),Bootstrap , I plan to study the HTML Academy course .
By the end of the year I want to change jobs. I understand that at the initial level it makes no sense to count on a large salary. A daughter was recently born, taking risks and leaving for a smaller salary is also not an option.
It remains to improve knowledge, create a portfolio and look for a new job, at least with the same income as now (40 thousand rubles).
Can anyone tell me if there are vacancies for Juniors in Web Development in St. Petersburg with my skills?
In order not to produce another topic, I would like to apnut this subject and ask: almost a year has passed, what are the realities of learning now? In which direction to look on a 1 month vacation?
Try to become a coach. Most coaches came to the profession that way. You will broadcast everything about leadership and efficiency referring to your imaginary successes.
I'm in about the same situation :) Write to me vk.com/morfey will be more fun together! :)
you can get a job in a state office - for example, in a court, in a tax office, in a pension fund, etc.
Man, just forget you're 30. Just take it and forget it. This number means nothing. Especially in the IT world, where any experience over 5 years is nullified - a programmer with 5 years of Python vs. a programmer with 5 years of experience in Python and 20 years of experience in Fortran - the same thing.
Good afternoon! Alex, I stumbled upon this topic and read it with pleasure. But more than 3 years have passed since the creation of the topic. And immediately it became interesting in which direction you nevertheless began to develop and do not regret it? I hope you didn't miss this time
In my blog , I described approximately who is who in the field of IT, especially in developing and working with an Internet site. There turned out to be about 8 specialists. But none can be trained in just a month. Yes, it can turn out to be such a monkey for pressing specific keys on the site, but there is no specialist. With such a desire, you can only drown a living project if you get on it. Usually I advise many people to start with layout or smm, seo. As for me, these are the most fast-moving specialties in which you can start working. But becoming a specialist still takes a lot of time and effort.
As an option, CEO and advertising on Yandex / Google are completely studied in a month.
You can also take SMM for a month. But the income there at first is scanty.
Which city? What are salary expectations?
If Moscow, if you understand OOP, if you are ready to start with an internship for 30K+ in the first month for a trial period, with growth as you master skills and knowledge - we can think about what to drag to ourselves. The main direction is Java EE. And then - everything else that is required in projects. FROM Desktop, 1C, Android to Seasharp crafts, if the client so desires.
And where is the link to your resume? ))
You can get a job as an intern in a franchisee even without experience, if you endure half a year at the minimum salary, then everything will be fine (:
And so, it took me half a year to get a job in the frontend: there is little layout and js at the basic level, almost every company uses its own frameworks, on which take time to study
